Boulder Elementary School will be kicking off the morning mile on Tuesday, April 13, a fitness program that encourages students to start each day with a healthy activity.

Students will have 30 minutes before school each morning to complete as many laps around a designated course at the town park as they’d like.  They can run at a full sprint, jog, walk and talk with friends, or even skip!

Exercise endorphins help students start the day feeling positive!  Additionally, the goal is to get children moving, build bone strength, develop muscle, fight obesity, boost cognitive performance, and aid focus. It will also be an excellent conditioning opportunity for our students to prepare for the upcoming district-wide track meet for fourth through eighth graders.

Students will track their distance daily and over time between their first day of participation and the end of the school year.  Each participant will receive an incentive necklace earning beads for the distance they move.  Click here to view all data.

We have plotted a course, approximately a ¼-mile loop at the town park.  Elizabeth and volunteers will help supervise the students and help count their daily laps.

Participation is free, and it is not mandatory.  Children can be there from 7:30 to 8:00 A.M. or jump in at 7:50, getting in a lap or two before school begins.

It is recommended that students pack an extra snack or breakfast that is easy to consume before the start of school after their morning exercise.

Parents, siblings, and neighbors are welcome to join in the fun or stand on the sidelines.  Because this is a school activity, everyone in attendance must be wearing a face-covering unless running alone or distanced from others for a mask or water break.

The morning mile will continue through the remainder of the school year.  It will take place every school day, weather permitting.
